Nikita Yogaraj
Nikita Yogaraj (she/her) is a queer and neurodiverse South Asian American artist and printmaker in Baltimore, Maryland. She specializes in limited edition hand-carved and hand-printed linocut block prints with botanical and political themes, and has collaborated with multiple local community organizations in creating art.
This art print illustrates Saidiya Hartman's quote "Care is the antidote to violence" with elements that represent community care in Baltimore: lit rowhome stoops where neighbors can hang out, a shared feast table, little free libraries, and a trumpet and megaphone that link joy and resistance.

I have also illustrated a quote from Arundhati Roy using a bouquet of flowers local to Maryland. This is a quote from one of my favorite fiction and nonfiction writers who is an Indian political activist, and I think of her quote often when I feel stuck about current events: "Another world is not only possible, she is on her way - on a quiet day, I can hear her breathing."

This is a piece that represents a form of community care, especially one so common to Asian American families - showing love through food. It includes illustrations of local edible plants in Maryland, including cattails, sunflowers, blackberries, and chicory. "I cook food just to show how much I love you."

This is a visual typography piece inspired by a statement by Dr. Connie Wun of AAPI Women Lead, that calls for AAPI Americans to be inclusive of ALL Asian Americans.
