What is Too Much/Not Enough?
APAC wants to showcase the stories that are atypical and unapologetic, that counter, interrogate, and expand on the conventional ideas of what is “Asian.”
Our blog Too Much/Not Enough is a space for both you to reflect as a writer and an artist and offer a point of engagement for readers.
We’re looking for stories from all self-identified Asian Americans about how their views on being Asian American have changed, examine ways Asian Americans are or are not reflected in culture and media, and/or explore what more or different you want to see.
We are looking for personal essays, op-eds, cultural criticism, interviews/reportage, or creative work that:
Crosses time and space and modes of being a transnational and transcultural human in the world.
Connects the personal and the global, that only speak to you, but also place you in the rich history of your diaspora.
Lives at the crossroads of authenticity and diversity, comfort and discomfort, the specific and the universal.
We are looking for writers of all backgrounds, experiences and professions; we especially welcome AAPI artists to write about their experiences regarding representation in the arts world, be it as a visual artist, performer, or writer.
Want to submit?
Please send pitches to blog@baltimoreapac.org.
Be sure to include a short bio of yourself, the genre of piece you would like to write, and questions or lines of argument you’d like to explore. Be as detailed as possible. Completed drafts are welcome, but not required. We aim pieces to be between 500-1000 words.
