About the Series

Memories and Burden: Faces of the Holocaust was developed in honor of the memories and stories of Holocaust survivors and victims. I created my work to act as a conversation starter about this moment in history and the many individuals that survived or perished. Utilizing metal, ink, and paint, I tapped into a center of emotion and translated the inner strife of individuals caught within a world of nonsensical turmoil into art.

About the Artist (APAC Administrative Specialist and Graphic Artist)

B. Victoria (BV) is the daughter of a first-generation Mexican mother and a first-generation half Filipino, half Swedish father. While her life is very Americanized, she has greatly enjoyed the influences of her multi-cultural family. Growing up, she was always proud to be the granddaughter of three immigrants from Mexico and the Philippines. As an adult, she has strived to learn more about her many different roots including the discovery of her Jewish ancestry that was hidden by previous generations out of fear for their family’s safety.

She studied art at Harrisburg Area Community College before transferring to Millersville University in Pennsylvania. Alongside a primary focus on drawing and painting, she has had many interests that include ceramics, printmaking, and metalsmithing. In her final semester of college, she completed her BFA exhibition which explored the stories behind victims and survivors of the Holocaust. The series developed further meaning after her family discovered that their Mexican ancestors were Sephardic Jews.
